Life Itself, 2008
Once upon a year, I received a precious package from Germany in the mail from an unknown person, writing me that she had seen my work at a fair and was so moved by it that she wanted to send me these three pieces of a childs shirt. The linen used was from a Hungarian shepherd’s shirt (handspun/hand woven linen) from the 19th century. It was so important for me to honor the history that was placed in my care.

The 7th part, 2019
I named this piece “The 7th part” because I was given this precious piece of handspun, handwoven linen from a man who couldn’t part with the whole piece of his grandmother’s linen but that he wanted to share with me, his appreciation of my work and also the world of yesterday’s handspun/handwoven linen.

I have always been fascinated by wall hangings in castles. This led me to a series of wall hangings with brass rods. Stitching forests and birds is another way of being back in our beloved farmhouse in the country.

What a joy to be able to stitch on this precious piece of antique “farmers linen”. It is handspun/handwoven linen woven in the 1950’s in Strallegg, a mountainous part of East Styria, Austria. Stralleggs' history of the growing of flax to its weaving has been documented since the 16th century.
